This section of the website will introduce you how best to support, manage and communicate with leaners in your workplace that are from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

We live and work in a rapidly changing global society. To a large degree our personal and professional achievements depend on the extent to which we are culturally aware and culturally competent. It is based on the understanding that the acquisition of cultural competence is an ongoing, life-long process, something we get better at the more we engage with other people – both from our own culture and from cultures other than our own. To aspire to being culturally competent you need to:

  • Know and understand your own world and the worldviews of people from other cultures;
  • Have professional attitude towards, and knowledge of, cultural differences;
  • Have communication skills
